Beka Raya Abagero is a PhD candidate in Molecular & Cell Biology & Genetics at Drexel University College of Medicine and a Clinical Research Assistant in malaria genomics. His research focuses on Plasmodium vivax biology, relapse mechanisms, and host–parasite interactions using genomic, proteomic, and molecular approaches. Beka has extensive field experience in Ethiopia through the ICEMR program and Jimma University’s Tropical and Infectious Diseases Research Center, where he helped establish molecular surveillance and parasite culture platforms. His goal is to advance malaria elimination through integrative genomics and translational research that informs diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccine development.
